Kapi‘olani Community College will host the Key Ingredients: America By Food Exhibition at the College’s Lama Library on the Diamond Head Campus in Honolulu beginning June 28, 2008, and continuing through August 23, 2008. The exhibition is sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute and the Hawai‘i Council for the Humanities.

Kapi‘olani Community College is one of four locations on three Hawaiian Islands but has the distinct honor of being the first site to introduce the exhibition to the state. “We are very pleased to be able to host Key Ingredients on our campus. We hope that the exhibit will inspire both the campus and the wider community to think more about the rich and varied foodways of our communities,” said Louise Pagotto, Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Established in 1946, Kapi‘olani Community College has a long, colorful history. Well known locally for its culinary arts, hospitality, health education, liberal arts and business education programs, the College has also established a national reputation in a number of innovative areas, including service-learning, international education, and science, technology, engineering and math programs. “This year marks our 62nd Anniversary and the Smithsonian Exhibit is definitely a major highlight,” said Pagotto. “Many local exhibits, activities, and programs for the whole family will supplement the Key Ingredients exhibit and add local flavor by examining the food traditions and festivals of our community and how they have helped define who we are,” Pagotto said.

Kapi‘olani Community College is located at 4303 Diamond Head Road, Honolulu, HI. The exhibit is free to the public. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. Closed Holidays.
